Ep. 63 - Jessie Jarvis of Of the West
Welcome to episode 63, which is the unofficial kick off to our THIRD season of the That Western Life podcast! We are talking all things business, entrepreneurship, going back to working on the family ranch, and the new business venture of Mrs. Jessie Jarvis called Of the West!
Growing Up A Rancher
Jessie Jarvis was raised on a ranch in southern Idaho as an only child to parents that are quite a bit older than her - to put in perspective, her husband, Justin's, grandparents are her parents’ age. With that age gap, there were some conversation barriers but it also provided Jessie well as she was able to grow up and be an adult sooner. Growing up on the ranch allowed her to be involved in all aspects of ranching, but ended up attending a liberal arts college. It was there that she realized, just a month and a half in, that agriculture was the industry that she wanted to be in.
Switching gears from pre-med to business, her plans were to get a masters in ag business but that changed when an internship at the Idaho Cattlemen’s Association led to a full time job. In that role, she was the shared industry between the beef council and the cattlemen, splitting her day back and forth. Doing so gave her the opportunity to learn a lot about the industry and what each one was doing for the industry.
Graduating early, Jessie only had class on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which allowed her to take a job. They offered her the position of Communication’s Director and she started full time after graduation in December.
