Ep. 75 - Sarah Van Vuren of Barrel Racer Fit

Even small progress is progress.

Barrel Racer Fit

In a sport that focuses so much on supplements, exercises and treatments for our four-legged athletes in both the performance horses and the bucking horses, we are taking a different twist and chatting with Sarah Van Vuren who is the face, voice and fitness expert behind Barrel Racer Fit. Sarah helps her clients have a competitive advantage in and out of the rodeo world in order to be at their competition best. Join hosts Katie & Rachel as they chat with Sarah about how taking care of yourself both physically and nutritionally, can give you the competitive advantage that you need to reach that next level in the arena with your horse!

Fortunately, because of technology, Sarah gets to work with women all around the world. There has been such a difference in 2020 with everything going digital, but Sarah has been in that space for just over two years.

“I started it online as personal training from the get-go, because my goal was to work with these rodeo athletes.. and they’re on the road all the time anyway,” says Sarah.

Growing Up

Growing up, Sarah’s entire family were very competitive in the baseball and softball world and, as a result, she started working with professional strength and conditioning coaches growing up. When she headed off to college, she was convinced she would be a Sports Information Director or on the communications side of sports at the college world.

“If I had done that, I would have had zero time to get back into barrel racing and to spend time with my horse and I never would have gotten to this point as a personal trainer,” says Sarah, who had started barrel racing again right after college. It was then that she had this moment that she realized she wanted to help people, but she wasn’t sure how to go about that.

“I couldn’t be a doctor or nurse because blood isn’t really my thing,” says Sarah with a laugh, “But I just really wanted to help people.”

It was at a barrel race that she realized how little time and effort was spent taking care of the jockey bodies in barrel racing and she decided that that was something she could bring into the industry.

Building Clientele

Despite doing barrel racing and having connections there, Sarah kept barrel racing and kept talking about fitness and working with women, and that is how her clients found her.
